Flu: Protect Yourself and Your Family

If you have severe illness or you are at high risk for flu complications, contact your personal healthcare provider or seek medical care. Your healthcare provider will determine whether flu testing or treatment is needed.

If You Become Ill 

If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek emergency medical care.

In children, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:

  • Fast breathing or trouble breathing
  • Bluish or gray skin color
  • Not drinking enough fluids
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Not waking up or not interacting
  • Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Flu vaccine

Rush-Copley will not distribute the seasonal flu or H1N1 vaccine.  Please contact your healthcare provider or your county’s health department for vaccine availability.

Flu test

If you come to the emergency department you WILL NOT receive a flu test.  A flu test must be ordered by your physician.

 

Visiting Rush-Copley During Flu Season

To protect the health and safety of our patients and staff, temporary visitation restrictions are in place to help stop the spread of cold and flu viruses in our community.

  • No one under the age of 18 unless they are the parent of a patient
  • Visitors with flu-like symptoms should not visit patients
  • Only two adult visitors per patient at one time
