Back and Spine

There are few chronic problems more agonizing or debilitating than back pain. And if you don’t receive the proper treatment, it could get even worse. That’s why it’s so important that you seek the right care in the first place.

Rush-Copley experts offer the region’s most comprehensive and effective treatment for back and spine problems. Like all knowledgeable specialists, they know when not to perform surgery, because it’s not always the answer. They approach each patient’s case individually, offering many non-surgical and minimally invasive options—including the innovative “band-aid” technique—as well as holistic treatments that provide a better quality of life.

If surgery is required, you’re in the right place. Dr. Fred Geisler, a nationally-renowned spine surgeon at Rush-Copley, was instrumental in the research and development of artificial disc replacement surgery, a breakthrough in spinal surgery similar to the technology used in artificial knees and hips. Along with Dr. Daniel Laich , he’s using artificial disc replacement as well as other complex procedures, including implants and fusion techniques, to bring welcome relief to countless patients, many of whom have come here seeking help from out of state.

Rush-Copley offers back patients a full continuum of care, from our Pain Clinic to the Fox Valley’s only acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Here, specialists in physical, occupational, speech and psychiatric therapies—as well as nutrition and social services professionals—use a “mind/body” approach to meet each patient’s specific needs. Often, they’ll also incorporate the Healthplex fitness club on the Rush-Copley campus into a patient’s treatment program to help further their strength and conditioning.
